Sunrise at the Golden Gate Bridge

(from Southeast Visitor Area - Flag Pole Hill).

From the Southeast Visitor Area - Flag Pole Hill,

the Golden Gate Bridge, Marin County to the north,

and Angel Island to the right.

The Bridge is painted international orange which

blends in well with the cobalt blue sky and

surrounding green hills.

From its vantage point overlooking the

Golden Gate Strait (the body of water

that the Bridge spans), Fort Point protected

the San Francisco harbor from Confederate

and foreign attack during and after the U.S. Civil War.

Fort Point is a National Historic Site (visit http://www.nps.gov/fopo/).

Golden Gate Bridge security patrols are coordinated with

other agencies, including the U.S. Coast Guard.
