Golden Gate Bridge Toll Rates

Tolls are collected in the southbound direction only (into San Francisco). The rate for two-axle vehicles and motorcycles (as designated by the CA DMV) with cash is $6 and $5 with FasTrak. FasTrak is the electronic toll system accepted on the Golden Gate Bridge as well as all seven Bay Area Bridges operated by Caltrans. For vehicles with more than two axles, the toll rate is $3 per axle and $2.50 per axle with FasTrak. Click for toll rates effective September 2, 2008.

Golden Gate Bridge Carpool Policy

Vehicles eligible for free toll passage between the hours of 5 am to 9 am and 4 pm to 6 pm, weekdays, except on seven observed holidays – New Year's Day, Presidents' Day (third Monday in February), Memorial Day (last Monday in May), Independence Day (July 4), Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day – include:

  1. Vehicles with three or more persons
  2. Motorcycles, as defined and designated by the CA DMV, which includes three-wheeled motorcycles
  3. Buses

Two-seater vehicles and vehicles with rear axle dual tires do not qualify as a carpool on the Golden Gate Bridge. Carpools require three or more persons for two primary reasons: to help alleviate traffic congestion and to remain within the budgetary requirements of the Bridge District.

CA DMV Clean Air Decals - http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/decal.htm

There are two colors of DMV issued Clean Air Vehicle decals - YELLOW and WHITE - that allow the vehicle to be operated by a single occupant in the High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) or carpool lanes of California's freeways. If you acquired a hybrid vehicle with Clean Air Vehicle decal attached, and you are a resident of the Bay Area, you must open a FasTrak® account in your name in order to drive solo in a HOV or carpool lane.

  White Clear Air Sticker

Vehicles bearing the WHITE decal cross the Golden Gate Bridge TOLL-FREE DURING CARPOOL HOURS of 5 am to 9 am and 4 pm to 6 pm on weekdays, excluding the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Washington’s Birthday (third Monday in February), Memorial Day (last Monday in May), Independence Day (July 4), Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

DMV issues WHITE CLEAN AIR VEHICLE decals only to vehicles that meet California's super ultra-low emission vehicle (SULEV) standard for exhaust emissions and the federal inherently low-emission vehicle (ILEV) evaporative emission standard.

  Yellow Clean Air Sticker

Vehicles bearing the YELLOW decal do not pass toll free during carpool hours.

CA DMV Yellow Clean Air Vehicle Decal – The 85,000 YELLOW Clean Air Vehicle Stickers for hybrid vehicles have all been issued. They are no longer issued to hybrids.
